The ORE diamond publishing platform was launched by the European Commission in 2021 and will start its next phase in autumn 2026. The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is one of the organisations supporting the platform financially, which means that ORE is open to all Swiss researchers. Publishing is free of charge.

Open peer review

ORE follows a publish–review–curate model. Manuscripts are first checked and published as preprints and then openly peer reviewed by experts in the field. The review reports are also publicly available, and authors can respond and revise their work. Articles that pass peer review are then curated into subject-specific collections on the platform.

This model offers researchers transparent peer review, cost-free publication, and greater visibility for their work.

The platform is based on Open Journal Systems (OJS) and will be operated by CERN in Geneva starting in the fall of 2026.
