Ideally, bibliographic metadata should be created in accordance with a metadata standard. It increases the discoverability and identifiability of publications for both humans and machines.
Bibliographic metadata include:
- Title(s) of the work (be it an article, a contribution, a book, or a book-chapter).
- Title(s) of the publication in which the work appears; for an article: the journal; for a contribution / bookchapter: the book; for a volume in a series: the series.
- Full names and institutional affiliations of the author(s).
- Abstract(s).
- Keywords (controlled or free-text).
- Publisher name.
- Publication date.
- International standard numbers (ISSN, eISSN, ISBN etc.).
- Persistent identifiers for the publication (DOI), authors and contributors (ORCID), author affiliations (ROR), and funding organisations (ROR), as well as other relevant persistent identifiers.
