With responses from 1,535 Diamond Journals the new survey by Natascha Chtena, Juan Pablo Alperin, Mikael Laakso shows a nuanced picture of the structures of these journals. „The absence of a single legal owner or formally constituted governing body may instead reflect historically evolved arrangements, traditions of community stewardship, or collaborative organizational forms that prioritize resilience through distributed institutional relationships rather than centralized control.“
And they conclude: "Our findings suggest that policies to support diamond OA would benefit from a richer empirical understanding of how journals are institutionally organized across different national, regional, and institutional contexts, rather than assuming that clearer or more standardized ownership and governance arrangements are universally appropriate."
